Scientific research has shown that mindfulness can literally change the structure of the brain, and enable us to build healthy, supportive relationships.
Even a few minutes of mindfulness practice a day can help shift things in significantly positive ways. As our patterns of reactivity, judgment, and defensiveness begin to dissolve, we can start to experience a richness in our relationships that we’ve never felt before; including the relationship with our self.
We can uncover a greater sense of connection and closeness, and feel more known, accepted, and understood. Imagine waking up every day feeling more alive, connected, and secure – without fear or worry about being anyone else but your most authentic self.

HERE’S HOW IT WILL WORK:
- We will meet together via conference call for an hour and a half a week for 6 weeks. If you can’t make it during class time, you can listen to a recording.
- Each class will consist of a mindfulness practice, a lesson and some group discussion/sharing. Even though we are a virtual community we will be sharing with and supporting each other!
- As Erin introduces you to the practices, you will be invited to practice each day in between classes. You’ll be given guided mindfulness practices to follow and other exercises to explore.
- Your life will be the laboratory and you will be the scientist exploring and looking deeply into how things are working or not working and seeing where you might want to make changes.
- You will be a part of the Mindfulness and Practical Magic Facebook community where you can continue to share your experiences and support each other in between classes and beyond. This give-and-take with other like-minded students and with Erin’s guidance will enrich this transformative journey.
- The concepts in this carefully crafted program will build so that at the end of the 6 weeks, you will have a new arsenal of tools to use.

HERE’S WHAT YOU’LL GET:
WEEK 1: INTRODUCTION AND CLIMBING BACK INTO THE BODY
- how mindlessness gets us into trouble: physically, emotionally and inter-personally
- what mindfulness is and how can it restore balance to the body and mind
- how thoughts, emotions and physical sensations affect each other
- in this culture that reveres thinking, we will start climbing back into the body
Week 2: FINDING STILLNESS AND USING THE BODY AS A COMPASS
- messages from the body, how we can tune in and let it guide us
- using the breath to find stillness
- mindful eating: each meal is an opportunity for being fully present
Week 3: THE TRANSFORMATIVE POWER OF PAUSING
- working with discomfort, physical and emotional
- walking your way to stillness
- what we can learn from unpleasant events
- your body is still talking…are you listening yet?
Week 4: COMING TO OUR SENSES
- using hearing and vision to bring us home
- what are you thinking?? are your thoughts serving you or causing suffering and how to get unstuck
- how do you know it’s not a blessing? looking deeply at the stories we tell ourselves and what messages we send
- becoming intimately familiar with our automatic reactions to stress; are we getting in our own way and if so, how to mindfully step aside
Week 5: HOW CHANGING OUR WORDS CAN TRANSFORM OUR HEARTS
- the dark quiet places are where the treasure is always buried; going deep into stillness
- how to communicate effectively so we don’t get derailed in day-to-day interactions
- working mindfully with “difficult people” in our lives so we can find freedom no matter what!
- what the mountains (and nature in general) can teach us about stillness and being grounded
Week 6: REWIRING THE BRAIN FOR MORE LOVING RELATIONSHIPS
- exercising our compassion and kindness muscles-for self and others
- actively cultivating gratitude, making space for what is going right
- verbal aikido
- bringing it all together-personal recipes for freedom and practical magic using mindfulness practices
WHO SHOULD TAKE THIS CLASS:

- Interested in doing the inner work that leads to freedom and increased joy. We’ll be shining the light into some dark corners. You are ready to look honestly at the whole experience of being human; “the full catastrophe.”
- Open minded and open hearted
- Ready to put some time in. Changes don’t happen overnight. Consider this analogous to exercise for the brain. If you don’t do the workout, you don’t see results.
- Willing to shed ways of being that are not conducive to joy and freedom. We’ll be getting out of our comfort zones. The only way out is through.
