The other night was the third and final Supermoon of 2014 and I was very excited to be able to see it rise above the red rocks of Sedona. I was even more excited when I learned that there would be a drum circle on Cathedral Rock to welcome the moon. Although the day was intermittently cloudy and drizzly, I was hopeful that things would clear up in time for sunset, as had been the pattern here. When I arrived at Cathedral Rock and hiked up to the plateau, the clouds were still pretty thick. Undeterred, I found a place to sit facing the expected moonrise with a few other optimistic souls. The weather did not cooperate and the clouds only thickened, eventually gracing us with a light mist. Nevertheless, the drums began to beat and the community sat in circle as people have done for centuries and still welcomed this Supermoon even though we could not see her directly.
This got me thinking about the moon and how it is always there and always affecting us even though we mostly pay it no attention unless there’s something in it for us, like a nice photo. Our ancestors understood the moon’s influence and farmers certainly paid attention to her cycles. The earliest calendars were based on it. It is scientifically proven that the moon affects the tides and since we’re mostly liquid, it obviously affects us too but even after all these years we’re not sure exactly how we affect each other. It remains one of life’s many daily mysteries.
I have decided to have more appreciation for the moon, as she must be keeping us in balance somehow. I am going to extend this appreciation out to the other things/people in my life that are always there, supporting me behind the scenes, shining on me even through the clouds. Today that includes all of YOU who are reading this and therefore supporting me on my newest venture. Thank you! Who or what is shining for YOU behind the scenes? Consider taking a moment to send active appreciation. I’d love it if you’d share your experience with the tribe here. Gratitude is a powerful state that only attracts more abundance to you and I believe others can feel this appreciation, even when it’s unspoken.
Shine on and keep appreciating all that is shining on you,

This is a wonderful sentiment Erin. Thank you for sharing your insights.
Thanks Erin for your thought provoking blog.. Your question about ‘what behind the scene aspect of life do we appreciate?’ got me thinking about leaves, fall foliage and the slow-motion color explosion that many of us living in deciduous forest areas get to experience right about now (Sept/Oct). Much of the fall color that we see in maple, aspen and birch was there all year round, we just did not see it. The green of chlorophyll masks the colors, and when the tree begins to slow down for winter and the chlorophyll levels fall, the foliage colors shine though. I really appreciate leaves on trees. Not only do they cool us down, but they provide us oxygen to breath and then there is this magic color revelation in each leaf as the air turns crisp and the sun arcs lower in the sky. Enjoy!
